Who is the qualification for?

The Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace is a qualification aimed at all employees. The qualification is intended for candidates already in workplaces and those who are preparing to start or return to work. It is also very useful for young persons to raise their ability to identify and understand hazards when preparing for work experience and into employment.

The qualification can be taken as a free standing qualification or as part of a wider programme of training.

Pre-requisities

There are no pre-requisites for this qualification. It is advised that candidates have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

What does the Course cover?

Guided learning hours for this qualification are 6-9 hours depending upon the mode of study and training needs of candidates.

Persons gaining this qualification will know that health and safety is the responsibility of everyone within a business, its contractors, visitors and suppliers. Its syllabus areas are regarded by the Health and Safety Executive as being important to maintaining safe working procedures in the workplace. The qualification is firmly based on the Entry Level 2 National Occupational Standards developed by ENTO HSK1 and HSS1.

This qualification provides the opportunity for candidates to develop competence in key skills and produce evidence towards attaining key skills. The qualification does not ensure key skills are met as this would depend upon candidates producing a portfolio of evidence and the mode of study adopted.

What does the assessment involve?

This is a single unit qualification, assessed by a 30 question multi-choice examination. Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 20/30. The examination paper is set and marked by HABC. The duration of the examination is 1 hour.

Restrictions on Candidate Entry

Candidates must have undertaken a course of instruction approved by HABC and covering the syllabus prior to taking the examination

Examination Results and Certificates

Following the examination a list of results will be provided stating whether candidates have passed or failed. Certificates for successful candidates will be dispatched shortly afterwards.
